Top Chef: Last Supper Edition

Filed under TV by at 9:43 am on Feb 17 2009

Last week’s Top Chef episode was one of the best I’ve seen. There was no histrionics, no jumping through hoops, just a good challenge about good food with what, to all appearances, was fair judging.

(I get tired of the “you can’t win” style of judging on this show: i.e. “You were too creative” vs. “You were not creative enough” as needed.)

It did bring to mind an excellent question though: What would you want as your last meal? I’ve known mine for a long time.

More spoileriffic details beyond…Yes, I know I said I was going to stop watching. Shut up.

I have been so happy to see Carla come from behind in this season. I could tell she had skills but it was all getting muddied up in ridiculous toaster oven and diet dr pepper shenanigans. They could have cut her at several points in the competition earlier and boy, I hope they are glad they didn’t do that.

You could tell Tom was SO ready for Leah to go. She should have gone the previous week. Additionally I did think Stefan was robbed in the Quickfire – his dish looked way more professional. I don’t know what happened there. I guess I didn’t taste it so there you go. Hosea is outclassed in the final four and will have to pull something ridiculous out of his butt to get anywhere. I’m sure he’s a good cook, the other competitors are just better.

Also, Wylie? Eggs? I think you look and act like the kind of guy that does stuff just to be weird.

Also Fabio is teh hottness. I am selectively ignoring the fact that he used my least favorite word. LA LA LA I CAN’T HEAR YOU HYPOCRISY IN ACTION. It’s a cultural relativity thing. I used to think Colicchio was teh hottness but frankly the more he has to carry the “I’m a douche for the sake of creating fake drama on this show” banner the less hottness.

I wish I watched this show now. I have seen it before, but like you said the judging kind of gets to me.

That steak is totally making me hungry.

For the most part it seems like a waste of time the way they edit it together – a half an hour of worthwhile footage but stretched to an hour – but this one ep was really awesome!
