Birkenstock Mania

Filed under stuff by at 8:04 pm on Jan 01 2010

Much of the time, I can be pretty cynical about marketing ploys. But recently someone tweeted about the @BirkenstockUSA 365 blog project, sourced entirely out of owners’ and fans’ pictures from flickr. And wouldn’t you know I went back for some reason and looked at practically the whole archive and in the process fell into a deep yearning. Nothing is more compelling than real people loving your product, I guess.

So promising myself I would donate at least two pairs of shoes in exchange, I trekked out to the store and I got myself some clogs. (That was a whole amusing experience in itself as the teenage salesgirl and I had more in common than I would have thought.) They are getting very gently worn in today, a day of ease. Here they are getting used to being worn on the couch with pajamas.

But come a dry day I am wearing them out! With a cute hippie skirt or something.Yes, I have issues with delayed gratification.

I used to have those in black, not suede though. I actually used to have 7 pairs of Birkenstocks. They were almost all I wore, but then I started dancing. Turns out I can either dance or wear Birkenstocks, but can’t do both at the same time. I end up with bad foot pain. So the Birkenstocks got donated because dancing isn’t really optional.

So what shoes do you wear for everyday wear during the colder months?

Let’s see – UGGS, Dansko clogs, Keens, Frye Harness boots and around the house – fuzzy socks and crocs which is a HAWT look I assure you.

I have my eye on some Danskos on ebay. I have always wanted Frye boots, but never felt able to justify them. I already have Keens and love them.

That leaves UGGs and I keep thinking that train has sailed, yet people keep wearing them. Maybe I should reconsider!

For a while there, Target was stocking excellent Halloween pajamas in the mens’ dept every year, and every year I’d get a new pair. Now the ones they sell are crap quality and have tacky, dumb patterns. *shakes a fist*

Also, I’m now stalking, I mean following, Acorn Dreaming blog (even though I promised myself I wouldn’t follow any new blogs this month) because Megan and I have the same shoes. (minus the Keeds which I literally just learned about today and the Crocs, because well… they’re Crocs and I’m kind of an asshole.) My UGGS are my around the house (and traveling on an airplane) shoes… you really needed to know all of this.

Awesome! We can bond over footwear! I wear my Uggs around the house, too. Actually, I really need to find a more effective way to clean my beloved Uggs because they are starting to smell like, well, feet.

Keens are great and very comfortable.

I have been known to take pictures of my shoes and put them on my blog. I love cute, comfy shoes.

I wouldn’t post this bullshit about my shoes if I didn’t want to hear other people’s bullshit about their shoes!

I second the Keens – when I was having arch problems they were the only shoes I could wear and despite being sport sandals I wore them every day.

Keens aren’t just sandals! The closed shoe and boot Keens are equally awesome and comfy.

It is a great photo…..and I have 27 pair of Birkenstocks sandals (for summer wear), five Birkenstocks Footprints tennis shoes type shoe, and five more in a slip on that looks businessy…..plus two pair of clogs, cept I like the slimmer toe bed like the Ashton and the Eaton. They are the only shoes that get rid of my heel pain…..and if you get those with the rubber soles….lol, you actually can dance. Of course, I wouldn’t be able to walk period, if it wasn’t for my Birkenstocks…..but I am waiting for a number suitable for dancing and weddings!!! Can’t wait!
